There are so many…payroll compliance knowledge, time management, problem solving, communication, and efficient in payroll software technology to name a few.

Everything Trina mentioned plus a good sense of humour–sometimes that’s what saves the day!

I love good sense of humour – it makes the environment more relaxed and real communications may go easily.

Intermediate – Advanced Excel skills are a must. There is no way to manipulate data and verify checks and balances without it.

The ability to explain complex calculations to employees with the objective to educate. – So many times I’ve overheard pay explanations that fly right over the heads of lay people who doesn’t have prior pay knowledge. There’s lots in payroll that can be taught but that’s one skill that you can’t fake.

Let’s also toss a big dose of patience into the list of necessary skills!

Attention to detail, verbal and written communication/listening skills, a good sense of humor, empathy, and to never take things personally – let it go.

Accuracy, communication skills, organization, collaboration, tact, and confidentiality.

Techhnical, Analytical and interpersonal skills. The ability to work under pressure. Being a people person, the human element is the most important part for me.
