A flubbed line during a high-profile presentation, a typo on an email to key stakeholders or a boss’s request for a Monday morning meeting with a subject line of βTBDβ can all cause stress, fear and worst-case-scenario thinking, also known as catastrophizing. In some industries this would work well and a 4 day work week would be welcome. In customer facing environments, cutting down a day of service to the public would not be looked upon favourably, as it would be an inconvenience to not be accessible for one more day a week. From an efficiency standpoint, it is definitely possible but there would have to be measures in place to ensure the same amount of productivity is happening in the 4 days as there was in the previous 5 day work week.
Our office typically cuts to a 4 day workweek in summer, to allow for a better work-life balance. Prodctivity appears equal to–if not better than–when we’re in 5 day workweek mode.
The idea is fantastic. It will be very difficult for some company to not working on Friday. In payroll specially it will be very difficult because on Friday there is payroll run date.
The feasibility of a 4-day in-office work week varies from one company to another. However, for certain companies, remote work for payroll tasks can indeed be effective, given that physical presence becomes less essential due to digitalized operations. Effective communication can be maintained through virtual meetings, supplemented by occasional in-person meetings β typically 1 or 2 times per month β to enhance collaboration when necessary. This approach not only broadens the scope for payroll professionals to operate on a national scale but also offers potential cost savings, as sporadic travel and accommodation expenses often prove more economical than those associated with maintaining physical office infrastructure and resources.
Great approach! Thanks Mary π
